MovementWorks is a physical theater group that builds works of modern pantomime. Founder Catherine Gasta is a Brooklyn based actor, mime and theater maker. Inspired by the visceral imagery of pantomime theater Catherine explores ways traditional mime can be implemented into modern theater storytelling. Drawing on musings of the current political environment, living in a city built by immigrants and a character that has been swimming around her head for several years emerges, Shadow. Shadow is a silhouette of a human. Transformed by simple black costume elements and prop fabric Shadow out of the Box is a story of the harsh and life threatening journeys that immigrants of war torn areas must endure to find a safe haven. Silhouette performance in front of projected black and white animation.
